Since its establishment in 2009, the Faran Ensemble has travelled extensively around the world, performing in concerts and various musical festivals. The band has released two albums, and won the grand prize at the 2014 international Jewish Music Festival of Amsterdam. They were selected as the best composition, and best Israeli talent. The Faran Ensemble often plays or records their music in nature, such as in the desert, the mountains, or in the woods. What’s the reason behind it, and how does nature and other surroundings influence them? “All our composition is original, and very influenced from the landscape that’s around us. Most of the times, meeting in nature, and creating in nature, and it’s connecting us and our music, and gives us this silence to create for. An inspiration.” Not only do the band members play in nature, studios, and concerts, but they also reach out to people in need and use music to lift them up. “They’re learning, they can beat the drum the right way. And they can speak through the drum. They can play rhythms. And its wonderful and after a while, maybe after two, three, four months, they have so much knowledge, and they can play very good. And it makes them calm, it makes them calm, it makes them also to believe in themselves that they can do things. And that’s for these special kids. I hope we brought them some comfort, hope.”
