In today’s news, United States provides pandemic assistance to Kenya, Australia funds to support women and children in Jordan, research finds cleaner air from lockdown may have saved lives in Europe, scientists develop method to monitor marine plastic pollution, Virginia, USA family returns large amount of cash found, Canadian study finds vegan diet boosts athletic endurance, and Indonesian rescue center gives hope for the future of orangutans.

United States supports Kenya in pandemic response.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has pledged US$6.6 million to help Kenya prevent and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will include increasing sampling and testing supplies, expanding surveillance, and supporting frontline workers with infection prevention and control. Since January 2020, CDC-deployed technical experts have worked closely with Kenyan health officials and the Public Health Emergency Operations Center, and provided training on necessary measures including risk communication and community involvement, laboratory diagnostics, port of entry screening and more. Field epidemiologists are also being trained in data collection and analysis conducive to evidence-based conclusions. The United States is a Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion laureate, while Kenya is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection and Compassion laureate. Many thanks, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In our sincere prayers, may all scientists, medical doctors frontline staff continue to be protected while working to benefit others in the goodwill of the Divine!

Australia assists vulnerable children and women in Jordan.

The Australian government, a Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion recipient, and a Shining World Leadership Awards for High Moral Value and Health Guardian laureate, has contributed US$3 million to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support health, education and protection for at risk youngsters and women in Jordan during the pandemic. Vulnerable students, including Syrian refugees, will be encouraged to take part in remote learning and later return to school. In addition, safe water and soap will be distributed to Syrian refugees in camps and distant areas. Furthermore, Jordan’s Ministry of Health will be assisted in providing nutrition and health services to mothers and children in underprivileged communities and refugee camps. We laud your kind assistance to our sisters and brothers in their time of need, Australia and UNICEF. May Heaven’s love shine upon the gentle people of Jordan, in the light of the Providence.

Hallo Earth-loving friends, it’s Reego the vegan Red Deer. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m very cute and adorable. I love eating vegan foods as it fills my heart with love. Be loving and become vegan, like me. Here is a tip for your backyard garden. Do you realize how important bees are? One third of all food grown on the planet depends on bees for pollination. Here’s another fact: Bees get thirsty! You can help by providing them with fresh, clean water. Sounds easy enough, but actually our little buddies will be extra grateful if you give them something to sit on as well. Just get a shallow pan, put in enough marbles or pebbles to cover the bottom and then add some water. The bees will be able to land on those tiny islands and drink safely. Thank you for tuning in. Love you for Being Veg and Going Green 2 Save the Planet for all humans and us all co-inhabitants. And now, the worldwide weather.

Cleaner air in Europe may have saved thousands of lives.

A report by Finland-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air has found that in the 30 days preceding April 24 of this year, 11,300 air pollution mortalities were likely averted due to the European coronavirus lockdowns. With people staying at home, the researchers found that nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution, mainly caused by road traffic and coal burning, fell by about 40% across Europe. A 10% decrease in particulate matter pollution was also observed. The study, which covered 21 European countries, estimated that 1.3 million fewer absences from work, 6,000 less new cases of asthma in children, and 600 fewer pre-term births were potentially due to the lower pollution levels. We are encouraged by your informative analysis, Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. In God’s great wisdom, we pray that European policymakers prioritize clean air for the betterment of our world and her people.

Satellite imagery helps researchers detect marine plastic.

Earth Observation scientist, Dr. Lauren Biermann and colleagues from United Kingdom-based charity, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, dedicated to a sustainable future for our oceans, used data from the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2 satellites to detect floating macroplastic patches in the ocean. Based on infrared light waves reflected from various objects and previous research from the University of the Aegean in Greece, the team was able to employ an algorithm to differentiate plastics from natural materials. The method was tested on the coasts of Âu Lạc, also known as Vietnam, Canada, Ghana, and Scotland, and accurately detected plastic at an 86% average rate. The scientists hope that their research will be used with drones and high-resolution satellites to assist clean-up operations and improve the monitoring of marine plastic pollution. Thank you, Dr. Lauren Biermann and all researchers involved, for this valuable discovery. May we all take part to reduce plastic waste and protect ocean health, in Divine guardianship.

Virginia, United States family returns almost US$1 million of found cash.

After coming across two large bags on the road during a family drive with their two sons, Emily Schantz, a schoolteacher, and her husband, David, later examined their contents and, realizing they contained cash, called the local police department. The couple had originally put the bags in the back of their truck, thinking they were trash and not wanting them to be an obstacle to any other driver. When officers began investigating, they determined that the almost US$1 million belonged to the postal office and was lost on the way to a bank. Ms. Schantz commented that they had to “do the right thing and return it because it didn’t belong to us.” What uplifting news, the Schantz family! God bless. May your honesty inspire many people to do noble deeds in a kind and caring world. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Elatedly present Emily and David Schantz the Shining World Honesty Award, with a big salute and praise for your exemplary honest conduct, plus a US$10,000 gift, if allowed, for the children’s college fund. May Heaven protect you and yours in all times of need. Group hug and big love.”

Study shows vegans have better endurance.

A study by researchers from the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada, and published in the Nature Research Journal, has shown that vegans get all the nutrients needed to be healthy and in fact have higher stamina than meat eaters. The test involved 28 women, who were vegan for a minimum of two years, and 28 women who were meat eaters. All the participants had a similar body composition and were required to perform strength and endurance tests as well as log meals for three days. The vegan women could perform the tests for an average of 12.2 minutes, while the meat eaters could perform them only 8.8 minutes, giving the plant-strong eaters an extra 3.4 minutes of exercise time before running out of energy. Way to go, University of Quebec in Montreal researchers and study participants, for proving that a vegan diet benefits physical endurance by a large margin. May the tremendous advantages of the plant-based diet for body, mind and spirit inspire a global shift to vegan living, in Heaven’s eternal radiance.

Indonesian rescue center gives hope for the future of orangutans.

The Sumatran Rescue Alliance, a newly formed orangutan coalition, will establish a 100-hectare rainforest rescue and rehabilitation center in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The facility is for orangutans liberated from the illegal wildlife trade as well as orphaned members of the species. Comprised of Australia-based The Orangutan Project and Indonesian partners, the Orangutan Information Centre and the Centre for Orangutan Protection, the Alliance plans for the intelligent primates residing at the facility to be released when ready. They will join the world’s most successful colony of rehabilitated orangutans in the protected Bukit Tigapuluh Ecosystem in eastern Sumatra, thus, helping to ensure the continuation of their species. The center will also have a permanent rainforest home for those orangutans not capable of living in the wild. A standing ovation, Sumatran Rescue Alliance. May the loveable orangutans flourish, as humans everywhere respect and protect God’s precious beings in all amazing forms and species. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to the Sumatran Rescue Alliance, along with a US$10,000 loving contribution for your benevolent, lives-saving cause, with much love, gratitude and best wishes. May Heaven forever bless and safeguard you and the cherished orangutans you help, in Divine love.”

Let’s have a hearty laugh together with the joke of the day. It’s called, “Game Plan.”

Pete went to consult his lawyer: My neighbor owes me $500 and he won’t pay up. What should I do?

Do you have any proof he owes you the money?

No.

OK, then write him a letter asking for the $1000 he owes you.

But it’s only $500.

Precisely. That’s what he will reply and then you’ll have your proof!
