In today’s news, Jordan sends further aid convoy to support Lebanon. Toxic seaweed overgrowth in Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico devastates economy and environment, Dutch students test their solar-powered ambulance in remote Kenya, US clothing-care company creates dry shampoo for everyday clothes, medical team saves boy after extreme fall-related injuries in Âu Lạc (Vietnam), Australian vegan cheese brand launches higher-protein cheddar-style shreds, and New Taipei City, Taiwan (Formosa), opens first government-run educational space at cat-people shelter.
Here is a tip to help keep these welcomed visitors healthy. As temperatures rise in summer, bird-friend feeders need a little extra care to keep the food fresh and safe. Clean bird-folk feeders more often during hot summer weather to help prevent mold and the spread of disease. Clean standard seed feeders at least once a week, and hummingbird friend feeders twice a week, or every other day during very hot weather. Remove old seeds before refilling, especially if it has become damp, caked together or shows black spots or other signs of mold. If the feeder is dirty, soak it for 10 minutes in a solution of nine parts hot water and one part vinegar, then scrub it thoroughly with a brush. Rinse well and allow it to dry completely before adding fresh food. Also clean up spilled or fallen seed beneath the feeder, as damp seed can quickly develop mold and may attract rodent-fellows. A clean feeder helps keep your garden bird-folk healthy.
The giggle island is already calling us! Let’s take a short visit there with the following joke, entitled “The Bookshelf Puzzle.”
Chloe stopped by and found Nora surrounded by boards, screws, and packing foam.
“What happened in here?”
“I ordered one ‘minimal assembly required’ bookshelf online. It arrived in 94 pieces with one tiny wrench and instructions that looked like cave drawings.”
“Good thing you didn’t order the ‘some assembly required’ version. Who knows how many pieces you would have ended up with?”
