Global initiatives prioritize the well-being of children in Tonga.
Save the Children, a leading global organization for children’s rights, is joining with Tonga’s Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Education and Training, to support the well-being and education of children following a volcanic eruption in January 2022 that negatively impacted schools on the island. Through Future-Ready Children, a three-year initiative funded by government supported Australian NGO Cooperation Program, training will be provided to school representatives together with the creation of a Safe Schools Committee to enhance disaster-preparedness and response capacity. Save the Children and the Australian High Commission in Tonga are also supporting the Global Partnership for Education to provide online learning environments and strengthen education resilience for residents. Australia is a recipient of five Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection and Good Governance; as well as a laureate of three Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Caring, Good Governance, Health Guardian and High Moral Value. Los Angeles County experiences rising COVID-19 cases.
With the approach of winter in the United States, hospitals in the California county of Los Angeles have seen a rising number of COVID-19-positive patients. The surge caused Los Angeles Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer to express concern about the greater potential spread of the virus. Between the end of October and the end of November 2022, the rates of infection increased 150%, with 2,483 people reported as infected every day. There are also fears of the possibility of a triple threat of COVID-19, the flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Los Angeles County strongly recommends wearing a mask in public and indoor settings, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Touching your dog friend with long, soft strokes along their shoulders, chest, and base of the tail is usually their favorite. Be mindful as they may not want to be petted in their more sensitive areas including paws, the top of the head, the end of the tail, stomach, or around their face. Furthermore, how fast you caress your dog companion affects their state of being. For example, short, quick strokes or pats can make them excited and sometimes cause them to play bite or snap. In contrast, long, slow strokes along their fur with light pressure will make them feel more peaceful. Petting your beloved furry friend benefits both you and them as it has a calming effect and deepens your bond! German company creates digital nose to detect forest fires.
A German company called Dryad has created a solar powered digital nose that can quickly detect forest fires and alert the fire brigade and relevant authorities. The small device costs €48, and testing has shown it can detect smoke much earlier than the currently used systems, such as satellites. Currently, 300 units have been installed across the world for testing, and the plan is to deploy 120 million globally by 2030. Such a system could save 3.9 million hectares from burning, while potentially saving the lives of three billion animal-folk every year. The smart device can also monitor forest health and report valuable data for scientific analysis. Great news, Dryad, on your excellent invention and plans to help protect the forests and the beautiful beings that reside there. Japan and United Nations assist communities in Iraq.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have renewed an agreement to enhance economic restoration and living standards in Iraq. The partnership seeks to boost infrastructure projects, which will create efficient service delivery and link communities to vital resources. One such outcome of the joint endeavor will be the benefit to more than two million residents of the city of Basra who will soon be able to access a consistent clean water supply. The partnership between JICA and UNDP has been assisting the Government of Iraq for over 14 years, and is committed to continue supporting sustainable growth in vital public sectors, such as water and sanitation, transportation, health and others. The United Nations is a laureate of the Shining World Leadership Award for Humanitarianism and two Shining World Leadership for Lives-Saving-Hero Awards. Japan is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Generosity, and Animal Protection laureate. Homeless man helps woman by changing her flat tire.
A woman in Chicago, United States, was driving her car to an evening appointment when she got a flat tire. Unable to change it herself due to the lug nuts being too tight, a caring nearby homeless man came to the rescue and helped change the tire. A photo of the man was shared on the MadeMeSmile Reddit community, and received 86,000 thumbs ups, as well as comments from others sharing their personal experiences of being assisted by homeless people. Along with the rounds of applause and many suggestions were heartfelt messages, such as encouraging people to “spin by that location again with some food, gift certificates, & socks.” Such a touching story, on the loving help given when it was required. A Food 4 Climate booth led by international vegan organization, ProVeg, marked the first time such a display was featured at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP) event. Previous COP meetings focused on topics such as fossil fuel emissions without addressing the catastrophic effects of animal-people raising operations, which is the primary cause of human contributions to climate change. The Food 4 Climate pavilion’s presence was described as “great progress” by Mr. Raphael Podselver (vegan), Director of UN Affairs at ProVeg International. Sadly, however, Mr. Podselver also acknowledged that countries were not acting fast enough to remove subsidies from animal-people breeding operations, thus limiting the production of alternative proteins. He also noted that humanity is quickly running out of time with climate change. Our gratitude, Food 4 Climate organizers and Mr. Raphael Podselver for your efforts to educate humanity on the importance of diet in relation to climate change. Born deaf, smart puppy learns sign language.
A seven-month-old Spanish Water dog-person named Rafa, who was born unable to hear, has learned to read hand signals in just eight weeks. Rafa’s caregiver, Jo Le Page, a pre-school teacher and author, from Guernsey part of the British Isles, noticed the pup’s lack of response to sound after his first day in her home. Determined to help her animal-companion live without limits, Jo began to work with Rafa, who soon learned signs for sit, stand, spin, paw, lie down and many more. Gorgeous Rafa meanwhile recently won first prize at a local inclusive dog-people show and has started to train as a therapy dog-person. A big thumbs up, Rafa and Jo Le Page! You demonstrate the enduring love and unlimited possibilities of the human-and canine-people relationship, in the tender embrace of the Providence.

O, Master! In the evening of August 22, 2021, while walking down a hill with my husband and our dog companion, I was hit by an electric vehicle which failed to brake on time due to its high speed. Thrown into the air upside down, I thought I was going to die. At that moment, I felt there was a hand that lifted up my head a little bit, so that what hit the ground was not my head but the left side of my body. My whole body hurt a lot and my waist couldn’t move. I was taken to the hospital by an ambulance and received a general check-up in the emergency department. The doctor then said, “That’s strange. How come you don’t have any internal injuries or broken bones? It’s really a miracle in a car accident like this.” My husband answered him, “It’s all because her Master had come to save her.”
Thank You, Master! Since my initiation in 1998, with Your Blessings and protection, I, a person with heavy karma, have been able to clear my karmic debts while experiencing the sweetness of Master’s Grace.
I remember one summer night, not long after my initiation, my son had a high fever and my husband was away working on night shift. I was in a panic. Suddenly, I heard knocking on the door. I opened it but saw no one there. When I turned around, I found that Master’s manifestation body, in the same white dress as on the statue of Quan Yin Bodhisattva, was in my house with two other people standing behind Her. Overwhelmed with surprise, I asked, “Why are You here, Master?” Master said, “I have come to take a look since your family is having some trouble.” I said, “My son has a high fever and I cannot take him to the hospital.” Master said, “Let me have a look.” Master touched my son’s forehead with Her hand and said, “He has no fever. There is no problem now and I have to go.” I quickly said, “Please, Master, have a cup of tea before leaving.” The one behind Master said, “Master was on Her way to another place. She dropped in only because you had a problem in your family. Master has to go somewhere else.” I sent Master off and saw the three of them slowly ascending to the sky. I pinched my cheek with force to check that it was not a dream! It was real! Master came to my home for sure! I was so excited! Thank Master for saving my son. Thank You for Your grace!
There was one time when my husband suffered a great loss in business which incurred a heavy debt. Unable to face that, I kneeled before Master’s picture, crying and saying that I wanted to divorce him. Master appeared to me again, that night, telling me not to divorce. She showed me all the related karma in our transmigrations, just like a movie. Master said that I must repay the debt from my previous lives before I can go back to Master’s Home above!
Another time, it was in summer, and I was doing the laundry on the riverbank beside a shipyard. As the rainy season had just passed, the river water was very deep and the steps were slippery. I had only washed three pieces of clothing and then carelessly slipped into the water. Just before I was about to drown, I urgently called Master for help. Immediately, I was afloat and was able to crawl out of the water.
Oh, Master! Thank You for saving my life! Though I am not a very good practitioner, You still love and look after me in every possible way. No worldly language can express my gratitude to You! I’ll truly practice diligently and glorify You with my speech and deeds!
