Through the years, cocoa cultivation has grown to the point where the crop is now being mass produced. Environmental groups and other organizations have voiced concern over the mounting ecological impact of the expansion of cocoa farming. One result of this expansion is the clearing of tropical forest areas required for cocoa farms. “Without action,” the report reads, “Ghana stands to lose all remaining forests outside its national parks in the next decade.” Fortunately, as global awareness of the deforestation caused by cocoa farming has grown, so has the increase in efforts to restore the precious tropical forests.
