Previously in Parts 1 and 2 of this three-part series, Jay Martin recounted suffering a heart attack and traveling through an amber tunnel into space after his heart stopped. At the hospital, he had no heartbeat, and his organs were shutting down. Doctors told his family he had died, and his 18-year-old daughter was asked to decide whether treatment should stop. She refused to give up on him and insisted they give him more time. Jay eventually awoke and began a difficult recovery, relearning how to walk, write, and talk. He also came to understand Love as an actual being, rather than only a feeling. In this third and final part, Jay explores his changed sense of identity, the visions he experienced during meditation, and how his experience shaped the way he loves himself and others. After returning to life, Jay felt as though he had been reborn. His grandmother later reminded him of an unusual remark he had made in the hospital.
She said, “When you were in the hospital,” […] “You said that you were doing something for two people now.” Jay remembered his family, but sometimes felt as though he was meeting them for the first time. He still recognized their love for him. Trying to understand this disconnect, he wondered whether another soul had returned with him, alongside his original soul. As Jay recovered, he tried to resume his usual routines, including meditation. He sat in his stepson’s closet because it was dark and quiet. He began experiencing heavy, sad feelings that lasted a couple of days. He associated these feelings with tragedies that followed. The experiences became overwhelming while he was already struggling with his health. He asked the Creator to take them away, and they stopped. When he felt ready and asked for them to return, they resumed. Jay’s continuing illness eventually left him too exhausted to focus on the visions, although he continued meditating to find peace.
He began sharing his story through podcast interviews, a conference appearance, and his memoir, The Second Time Around. Reflecting on his past mistakes and everything he had endured, Jay compared his death and return to a fresh start. He believed it might be connected to his karma. At a speaking engagement organized by his brother, he was asked whether he had heard a voice or seen GOD. Jay found the communication difficult to describe because he had felt part of GOD, as though he were speaking with himself. The message he could express in words was to love yourself and love others as you would want to be loved.
Despite his continuing health challenges, Jay remained hopeful. He tells loved ones, and even people he encounters in conversation, that he loves them. He believes love continues beyond death, connecting those still living with those who have died. His love also extends to people who harm others, even when he does not approve of their actions.
There’s only one Love. And Love is who it is and what it is. And I urge everyone to embrace Love. […] Somebody you never met physically before in your life— believe me, your spirit knows, your soul knows them, because you come from the same place. We are created in Love.
