In Part 1 of this three-part series on Hertha Lund’s near-death experience, the American attorney and equine gestalt coach recounts her childhood trauma, years of chronic pain, and hospitalization with pericarditis. Hertha was born on a ranch in rural Montana, where she started riding horse-people at four or five. She says her mother used alcohol to cope with her own unresolved trauma and sometimes became physically dangerous toward her. Hertha also experienced sexual abuse at age five. She attributes her complex post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, to these childhood experiences. To protect herself emotionally, she became tough and determined never to let anyone hurt her again.
She put her energy into succeeding, becoming a journalist and later an attorney with her own law practice, without slowing down to face her emotional pain. Chronic pain began while she was taking the bar exam in her early thirties. She describes severe endometriosis and, over time, fibromyalgia, low back pain, and migraines. Despite the pain, she kept pushing herself to work, driven partly by her fear of being unable to pay her bills after her family had lost their ranch. Around 2015, Hertha began having pain around her heart that worsened over a year. Eventually, it became so severe that she called an ambulance. She was diagnosed with pericarditis, inflammation in the sac around the heart. She says doctors did not know what caused it or how to treat it. She was initially sent home, but her condition continued to worsen, leading to repeated hospital stays. During one of these hospital stays, she spent about six days and five nights among patients who had undergone heart surgery. At night, she could see medical emergencies unfolding across the hall, and some patients died.
Talking to GOD was nothing new for Hertha. As a child, she had found refuge from her difficult home life outdoors with her horse companions. It was there that she began talking to GOD. In fact, I thought being with horses and talking to GOD were synonymous. So I didn’t learn about a spiritual path from the outside; it came from the inside. Seeing other patients die made Hertha consider that she, too, could die. From her hospital bed, she spoke to GOD about that possibility and felt the answer was yes. She told Him she did not like being here and used strong language to describe how difficult her life had been. And then I felt bad because I’m talking to GOD, and I’m talking like a foul-mouth rancher girl. I just stayed with it and talked, and I’m like, “It’s been a hard place here. You obviously sent me to the wrong place.” I mean, I always wanted to go Home to GOD.
I felt like a little four-year-old running to my Heavenly Parents’ lap, free, joy, totally worthy. Join us tomorrow for Part 2 of this three-part series, as Hertha recounts becoming one with a vast tube of white and gold Light and realizing she still had a reason to be on Earth. She also shares the promise she made to GOD before returning to her body and the first steps of her healing journey. (She Owns Success TV YouTube channel - Thank you)
