Did you know that meditation, which many adults practice, is also becoming a valuable tool for kids? Meditation can help us manage our feelings, build confidence, and improve our overall well-being. It’s an important practice that can make a big difference in how we feel and how we handle challenges. Today, we’re going to explore how meditation can help us remain calm, focused, and better prepared to face life’s challenges.

“The students are having an opportunity to meditate. It deals with them looking inside of themselves, taking that energy that is negative, and refocusing it into something that’s very positive.” Research shows that meditation lowers cortisol levels, which helps keep our bodies healthy. Lowering stress can also strengthen our immune system, making us less likely to get sick. Regular meditation can improve our sleep, which is essential for growth and overall well-being.

Another way meditation helps us is by improving concentration and cognitive function, leading to better performance in school. Meditation isn’t just about how we feel; it also helps us understand others better. Practices like loving-kindness meditation teach us empathy, helping us relate to the feelings of those around us. This can lead to better social interactions and more positive relationships.

As we explore the benefits of meditation and spirituality for young people, it’s essential to understand the deeper impact these practices can have on our lives. Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) shares Her thoughts on why starting with a strong spiritual foundation can make a big difference, not only in how we grow up but also in how we contribute to our communities.

“I think all the schools on our planet should include spiritual and moral standards in our school curriculum. Because that’s what’s lacking, deeper subjects. Not just saying, ‘OK, I go to church,’ or ‘I give a little to charity,’ which [isn’t] always mentioned in the schools. Now, the basic moral and social standards, we must instill in the children at a young age and provide the inner support they can always lean on throughout their lifetime. A study in Canada, your country, showed that children who have spiritual faith are happier. Furthermore, meditation helps children to become calmer and more focused. For example, in the US, some studies were conducted in schools that taught children how to do simple meditation, and they reported very good results, such as less anxiety, better mood, more attention span. Such kids grow up to be the helpers and strong leaders of our societies.”
